Big excitment

I was walking through Wal-mart this weekend and they are already putting Valentine’s stuff on the shelves. Can you believe that?? I mean, we just had Christmas! And Valentine’s is a month and half away! Next thing you know, it will be Halloween.

Steve and I had a good Christmas. He stayed kinda sick through Tuesday, but I think he has finally recovered. We went to Canyon Lake for Christmas Eve to spend time with my grandparents and cousins. When we got home we changed into our pajamas and opened half of the gifts that we got for each other thinking that if we had 2 days of present opening it would be more fun. Christmas morning we opened the rest and then got ready for our “big” dinner. His parents showed up around 11 and my parents got there around 4. We had a turkey from Popeye’s Chicken, a ham, and all the fixings and everything (other than the turkey) was made by yours truly. It was good but the turkey was kinda dry.

Other than the presents, our big excitement this weekend was walking outside Christmas morning to find that the lights we put up along our driveway were stolen! Stolen!! Who the hell steals Christmas lights on Christmas Eve???? They took the whole strand on the right side of the driveway and six bulbs from the strand on the left. Ugh, so irritating.

Steve and I have no plans for New Year’s Eve. I feel kinda lame but at the same time I am just not feeling it this year. If you are doing something fun I hope it goes well!

The calm before the storm

I had a very quiet weekend this weekend. In fact, I only left the house twice. Once for dinner on Saturday and once to go to the store on Sunday.

Steve ended up getting very sick on Saturday during dinner. He said he was feeling weird, like he couldn't even lift his fork to eat. When we got home, he ran to the bathroom. He was in such a hurry he hit his head on the door frame! When he finally came out, he had a huge knot and was sweating like crazy. I checked his tempurature and put him to bed. He had a fever of 100.4 and it lasted until 2pm on Sunday. I was getting kinda worried that it wouldn't break so I was glad when it did. He stayed home from work yesterday and is starting to feel much better.

I am not as excited about Christmas this year as I normally am. I think it is because we are not doing what we normally do for Christmas, well, what I normally do. Normally, I take 2 weeks off and pretty much spend that entire time in the Valley with my folks, this year I will only get to see them this weekend. The worst thing about getting married is sharing the holidays. Or at least that has been the worst for me. I have never been very good at sharing.

I hope everyone has a great Christmas! And Happy Hanukkah Steph!!

Keep your fingers crossed!

Today is our department's holiday party. They are going to announce the winner of the cube decorations. Here is my entry:

There are 2 other cubes who are pretty stiff competition. One girl made the front of her cube look like a ginger bread house:

It is really cute. Another made her's look like Santa's house. It has a roof over the entire cube with lights and snow and it has a fireplace inside the cube. This person also convinced the nine people to the left of her to decorate their cubes like houses as well. They put each of the reindeer on top of these houses and right before the judging they will add a string of lights to connect the reindeer to Santa's sleigh. This isn't the best picture but you get the idea.

I am hoping for 3rd. I'll get to leave 2 hours early on the day of my choice. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Update: I got it!!!

Shopping is the best medicine

I am having a hard time concentrating at work today which is not good because I have a mountain of things to do. I have 29 files audits that have to be completed by the end of the year and there are only 7 working days left excluding today. That is 4 audits to do a day. This is totally doable but I am on 3 studies and will be the back up on 2 others for someone that will be out for 2 weeks starting next week. And I have to do reviews for the people I managed while I was an RCM. I have 2 of those left. Ugh, not a good day to not pay attention.

I went shopping at lunch today. New York and Company is having a huge sale, everything is 50% off and it is my favorite store. Here are my favorites:

I actually got this in black but I wanted you to see the details.

It has rhinestones on the buttons!

I got this in a really pretty peach color but it is sold out online so I couldn't select it.

I also got a couple of long sleeved t-shirts, some navy trousers, and some more camisoles too. It was a good trip. I highly suggest going if you need sweaters, they have some really cute ones and they are only $15-$20 right now. They also have some cute scarves if you need an inexpensive gift for someone.

Sick, sick, sick

Sorry I have been MIA for a few days. I got sick last week and haven't been up to doing much of anything. I can't stop coughing and my nose is super stuffy. It sucks. It started on Thursday which was ok because the weekend was coming and I knew I could sleep it off, or at least I thought I could. My coughs are so violent they keep me up and if I am able to fall alseep, they wake me up. Like I said, it sucks.

Steve and I didn't do much this weekend thanks to my cold. We finished putting up the lights on the house and took some pictures of the dogs for our Christmas card.

This was my favorite picture of them but it isn't the picture that we used on the card. It didn't fit the space in the card that we liked. I sent them out on Tuesday so they should be arriving soon!

Sunday night my computer crashed. I took it to IT on Monday, went to our employee health clinic for some prescrition drugs, and then went home. The doctor gave me some cough medicine with codine so I thought I would be able to sleep forever - wrong again. It doesn't work any better than the over the counter stuff. :(

I have been playing catch up at work every since. As nice as a day off is, sometimes it just isn't worth it!

We lost one just to gain another

Back in September, we gave out kitten Sophie to my sister. She just didn’t seem very happy at our house. She never purred, or played. She did all of those things at Dottie’s house. I think maybe it was because Dottie had her sister so Sophie had someone to play with. It was kind of a blessing, Sophie used to get litter all over the bathroom where her litter box was and she was putting small holes in the couch up in the Man Cave. These 2 things really annoyed Steve, especially the couch.

While we were at my parent’s house this weekend, my mom told me she was tired of all of the cat hair everywhere in their house. They have Sophie’s brother, a white long haired cat, and my old cat, Nala, a grey short-haired cat. I got Nala 7 years ago when I lived in an apartment in Harlingen. When I moved back in with my parents, she didn’t take it very well. She didn’t like sharing her living space with dogs. When I moved up here, I lived with my grandparents for awhile and I could not have animals so I had to leave her behind. My parents grew attached to her so I never moved her up here with me. The cat hair my mom is referring to is not Nala’s, it is the white cat’s hair but she decided she did not want cats anymore. She told me that she was going to take them both to the pound if she didn’t find them a home by the end of the month. Not wanting to lose Nala to strangers, Steve and I decided we would bring her home with us.

The drive was interesting to say the least. Keeping her and Gizmo apart was tough. Nala hated the kennel as it was and would growl whenever Giz would get close. The transition has gone fairly well though. Sunday night she pretty much stayed under the bed but she is started to venture around the house more and more now. I love having her back. I had forgotten how much she likes to snuggle. So far she has kept her litter in her box and hasn’t put any holes in the furniture and hopefully it stays that way!

Another weekend bites the dust

I blinked and the weekend was gone!!

On Black Friday, this camera I had been eyeing for quite some time now finally went on sale. Steve and I were preparing to fight the crowds at BestBuy and go get it when we realized that we could order it online instead. So we did! It was delivered right as we were packing up to leave for Harlingen this past Friday. I was so excited that I was going to get to use it over the weekend! It is a Sony Cybershot T300.

I love it so far!!

We got to my parents around 9:30 and just hung out the rest of the evening. My sister and I got my mom a necklace and a bracelet for her birthday. She seemed to like them. You never can tell with my mom.

Saturday we did a little shopping. My sister and I went out by ourselves that morning. We said that we were going to running but went to pick up some decorations and the cake I ordered for my mom earlier in the week. We dropped them off at my grandma’s so that we could surprise my mom with them at dinner. As a family we went to Furniture Row and my mom got herself an entertainment center and the matching coffee table and end tables. It was her birthday present to herself. We went to BestBuy after that to get a memory card and a case for my camera. It is black and pink and will hold my license and credit card along with the camera. Now I can go places with just the camera and not my whole purse!

That night we went to La Playa for dinner. Dot and I left early to “Greet the guests”. We tied balloons on the chairs, put up and few center pieces, and gave the cake to the waiter. My mom was happy to see the balloons when we walked in. We all kinda talked for awhile and then ordered dinner. Steve, my siblings and I shared a padrillada for 4. It is a huge plate with beef and chicken fajitas, sausage, and ribs. It was fabulous! The waiter was an idiot though and never ordered my parent’s food!! So the birthday girl had to pick off people’s plates (mostly ours) until theirs came out. To make matters worse, the waiter then brought out the cake still in the cake box and didn’t light the candles!! I was so disappointed! He was such an idiot! After cake, we left and went back to our house with some of my family members trailing behind us. They stayed over for awhile and then we all crashed out.

Yesterday was spent on the road mostly. We left Harlingen around 3, got home around 8, dropped Gizmo off and then took Dottie home. As soon as we got back home I went to bed. I was exhausted. I feel like I have been going and going since the weekend before Thanksgiving. Luckily then only thing I have going on next weekend is the Jingle Bell 5K. Other than that, I am not getting off the couch!!!
